Mental health

Happy, to be happy, happiness. It's a word that gets thrown around a lot,  but unfortunately very rarely achieved. In todays society people are so interested in what other people are doing and what makes other people happy, they have forgotten themselves.

If you are honest with yourself and have the courage to follow what truly makes you happy, you will find lasting happiness. If you think about the phrase "lasting happiness" it has to come from within because all human external influences are out of your control. They can be manipulated but ultimately it is something you will never have complete control over. Finding yourself and lasting happiness will make it easier to overcome adverse situations.

Relying on other people or things to make you happy is only short term. If you value someones opinion they can influence your happiness through actions and words. This is largely out of your control. So to become reliant on someone or something to make you happy is a delusion and in my opinion pure madness.

What makes us happy needs to be constantly addressed. Change is inevitable and as we evolve we need to reassess what it is that makes us happy. When you were 15 it may have been running around in the park, when you were 20 it may have been going out and drinking with friends, when you were 30 it may have been spending quality time with your kids and so on.

If you don't find what makes you happy in the present time and surround yourself with people that respect that and love you for who you are, you will not find peace with yourself. This will unfortunately lead you to chasing happiness that is out of your control.

Mobile phones, a pain in the neck

As an owner of a physiotherapy practice I love the fact people in todays society are addicted to their mobile phones. They cause pain and headaches which makes me a lot of money. So before I go on, a big thank you to apple and samsung!! However it deeply saddens me to see so many antisocial people wasting their lives. The following 7 steps will help neck and head pain, reduce stress and most importantly improve your quality of life.

Step one: Get off your hands off it!! Show appreciation for what you have, hell talk to a stranger, live a little.

Step two: All social media should be done in the morning or at night in bed on your back with your neck supported. If you need to post during the day get an app to do it for you. If you need to look at social media more than twice a day, how sad and truly boring you are.

Step three: When texting bring your phone to eye level don't bring your head to phone level. With gravity (9.8m/s) acting on the weight of your head (approximately 5kg) its only a matter of time until you neck muscles go into spasm.

Step four: The body likes balance and movement. Change hands, change position, take a break. Do what ever you can to give the body adequate recovery.

Step five: Remember to breathe. Deep breaths down into your diaphragm are essential to avoid upper chest and neck tension.

Step six: Go old school. meet with someone in person, engage them. laugh a little.

Step seven: Get off your phones losers!!
